The tagline ‘There was never just one’ indicates this will be a follow on from the original trilogy and not a reboot, The Bourne Legacy will see Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Town) take over from Matt Damon, playing a different character who has gone through the same Treadstone training programme as Bourne.
The fourth installment is directed by Tony Gilroy, who wrote the first three films and has had some directing success with the Oscar nominated Michael Clayton.
Jeremy Renner’s stock is most definitely on the rise with starring roles in the recent Mission Impossible instalment and the upcoming blockbuster The Avengers. With Damon stating he would only return to the franchise if director Paul Greengrass also returned, the fourth film needed a new lead and Renner certainly looks the part as ‘Aaron Cross’ in the new trailer which you can view below.
There is a strong supporting cast with Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Oscar Isaac, Albert Finney and Joan Allen returning as Pamela Landy.
The Bourne Legacy is scheduled for release in the UK on 17th August 2012 and across the pond in the USA on the 3rd August.
