‘The Artist’ was the big winner at this years BAFTA awards taking home no fewer than seven awards including Best Picture, Original Screenplay and Best Director for Michel Hazanavicius. Jean Dujardin scooped the Best Actor award for his role in the silent movie which is expected to dominate at the Academy Awards in two weeks time.

Meryl Streep continued her good form winning Best Actress for her portrayal of British PM Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Iron Lady’.

The Supporting Actor award went to 82 year old Christopher Plummer in ‘Beginners’ and Supporting Actress was won by Octavia Spencer in ‘The Help’.

Outstanding British film award went to ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ which also won the Adapted Screenplay award.

Martin Scorcese was honoured with the Academy Fellowship for “outstanding and exceptional contribution to film” and actor John Hurt was awarded with the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema.
