With 2012 well and truly coming and going quicker than you can say “Quidditch,” TheThrussellProject would like to point out the must see movies in March. We’ve looked at wild comedy Project X, next up is Disney/Pixar live action adventure John Carter.

Synopsis: Transported to Mars, a Civil War vet discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess who is in desperate need of a saviour.

The first live action film from Pixar has arrived, directed by Andrew Stanton (Wall-E and Finding Nemo), based upon the heroic character from the 11 volume Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs’, John Carter is primarily adapted from the book A Princess of Mars. This is a big budget epic (US$250 million to be precise) which Disney and Pixar are hoping will turn into a money spinning franchise.

However early signs are suggesting this could be the next blockbuster flop. For every Transformers or Pirates franchise there are the occasional casualties such as Jonah Hex and The Green Lantern, so be warned John Carter could be an epic success or it may well be forgotten in years to come.

The trailer looks like a cross between Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Avatar and Prince of Persia, check it out below.

Taylor Kitsch stars as the title character who will also be seen in Battleship later this year, Mark Strong and Willem Dafoe also feature. John Carter is released in the UK and US on March 9th 2012.
