Action film Act of Valor starring real life active-duty Navy SEALS has topped the US box office taking $24.7m over the Oscar weekend.
The film from Relativity Media wanted to show the true skill and bravery of the Navy SEALS without the usual Hollywood imitations. The directors Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh realised no actor could realistically portray or physically fill the roles they had written, so the actual SEALS were cast in the film.
Synopsis: An unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original filmmaking, Act of Valor stars a group of active-duty Navy SEALs in a powerful story of contemporary global anti-terrorism.
Act of Valor is out now in the US and will hit the UK screens on March 23rd 2012 and Australia May 3rd.
