The 1970’s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

As a very sporadic follower of Formula One, the first trailer for Rush stood out to me as much more than a racing flick. Ron Howard is a great storyteller and it really shows in the less dramatic and more heartfelt scenes. The race scenes however did not disappoint with a tremendous recreation of events during the period. From the early Formula Three rivalry to the horrific accident at the German Grand Prix, Rush is an exhilarating watch that at times slows down to touch on the things that really matter ie. family and love.

Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl are fantastic as the two rivals who deep down truly do respect each others talent for racing. It is clear the two drivers were obsessed with the winning during this period, which both actors convey so well on screen. Special mention to Hans Zimmer’s score who again proves to be one of the best in the business.

A good start to the end of year releases and a highly recommended watch.
